Aside from the current war and the Gulf War, Albany Rural Cemetery has the graves of soldiers from every war in which American soldiers fought. The following are some of the notable soldiers and where to find their graves: Carlton S. Walker Jr.

Vietnam War

1943-1978

With his father's signature, 17-year-old Walker enlisted in the Army in 1960 and served his first tour of duty in Vietnam through 1964. He re-enlisted in 1967 and was wounded on May 12, 1969, after which he was discharged on disability, having earned the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the National Defense Service Medal, among other medals.

His stepmother, Dorothy Walker of Rensselaer, still has the telegram. ``The secretary of the Army has asked me to inform you that your son, Staff Sergeant Carlton S. Walker Jr., was slightly wounded in action in Vietnam on 12 May, 1969, by fragments while in an aircraft landing zone when the area came under rocket and mortar attack by a hostile force.''
