Jurkiewicz a study in double-distance excellence

With four advanced placement classes in her last semester of high school, Lavinia Jurkiewicz is feeling a bit stressed in the classroom.

''Sometimes I want to hibernate under a rock till the summer so I don't have to deal with it all,'' she said.

But when the Young senior heads out on the track, her worries disappear and all's well.

Jurkiewicz pulled off an impressive distance double Saturday, winning the 1,600 and 3,200 meters against strong fields in the Sue Pariseau Invitational at Glenbard West.
