Embree joins Yankees' bullpen.(Sports)

NEW YORK - Left-hander Alan Embree signed with the pitching-starved Yankees on Saturday, hoping to bolster their bullpen as they chase his former team, the Boston Red Sox, in the AL East.

Released by the Red Sox on Friday after being designated for assignment 10 days earlier, Embree, 35, was fishing back home in Oregon before he agreed to a deal with New York late Friday night.

To make room for Embree, the Yankees designated left-hander Buddy Groom for assignment. Groom, 40, was 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA in 24 appearances. The Yankees are Embree's eighth team in 12 major league seasons. He slipped to 1-4 with a 7.65 ERA and one …
