NSW: Folbigg investigator honoured
The New South Wales police officer who headed the investigation that led to the conviction
of child murderer KATHLEEN FOLBIGG will receive a Commissioner's Commendation today in
honour of his work.
Detective Inspector BERNARD RYAN will be presented with the award by Police Commissioner
KEN MORONEY and Police Minister JOHN WATKINS at a ceremony in Goulburn in the southern
highlands.
In May last year, a NSW Supreme Court jury found FOLBIGG murdered her children PATRICK,
SARAH and LAURA -- aged between eight months and 19 months -- between 1991 and 1999 in
Newcastle and Singleton.
She was also found guilty of the manslaughter of CALEB, who was just 19 days old when
he died in Newcastle in 1989.
Justice GRAHAM BARR sentenced the 36-year-old to 40 years behind bars with a non-parole
period of 30 years.
A police spokesman says Detective RYAN will receive the award for his painstaking investigations
into the deaths of FOLBIGG'S four children with only limited assistance and resources.
