Qld: Fire takes out TV services

Television services in the Townsville area won't be back to normal until later this
week following a fire last night.

The fire in the casing surrounding three antennas on the largest transmission tower
on Mount Stuart, south of Townsville, knocked out television and radio services for two
hours last night.

A Queensland Fire and Rescue Authority spokesman says the height of the tower and its
instability meant little could be done to fight the fire.

A helicopter used for water drops was on another job at the time.

Services are currently being broadcast on minimal power, but won't be back to normal
until new equipment from Victoria is installed on Wednesday.
